Technology
- Communication and Coordination: Ensure clear and consistent communication through email, messaging, reports, and ticketing systems. Includes vendor collaboration. Message broadcasts are also important especially for critical security related incidents.
- Documentation and Process: Maintain accurate documentation, policies, knowledgebase, asset management, and inventory while adhering to established procedures. Following the process is important; otherwise, documentation is of no use and will never be updated.
- Security and Safety: Protect both digital and physical assets, including EDR, firewall, email, cybersecurity, backup, disaster recovery, and maintaining proper environmental controls such as temperature and wire management. Managing physical access to assets, including staff, is critical.
- Automation and Efficiency: Leverage scripts, GPOs, and AI tools to automate routine tasks and enhance operational efficiency. Routinely review monitoring and alerting configuration to avoid noise, leading to ignoring critical events. It includes managing unused active accounts and licenses renewal, routinely resetting passwords, patching and updating apps, OS, and firmware, etc.
- Research and Development: Continuously research security and automation to test and adopt cost-effective, efficient solutions. Build a test environment to explore, develop, and validate new solutions before deploying them to the production environment. Be it a PC or user configuration, desktop icons and shortcut layout, or infrastructure changes like a cloud solution, we need to test it in a dev environment before implementing and deploying.
Student safety is our first and paramount responsibility.
Technology is crucial in education and is becoming more so over time.
Technology should support, enhance, and/or accelerate learning but NEVER precede it.
Technology is a tool, not the means, in education.
Technology should be fairly accessible regardless of individual social, economic, or physical situations.
