On February 2, 2017 twenty-seven 8th graders and one 10th grader traveled to Western Wyoming Community College to compete at the regional science fair. The fair was sponsored by TATA Chemicals of Green River, which paid for each student's registration, t-shirt and lunch. Participating schools were Pinedale, Big Piney, Green River, Saratoga, Hanna Elk Mountain, Encampment and Little Snake River.
The Microbial Fuel Cell project, developed by Big Piney Middle School students Carlos Munoz and Nathan Maxfield was selected as the overall regional winner and winner of the Biochemistry category! Both Carlos and Nathan were awarded two-year, full-tuition scholarships to WWCC. TATA Chemicals also awarded the overall winner's school $500 to purchase materials for the science classroom.

Qualifiers will attend the state science fair March 4-7 at University of Wyoming. Congratulations to all of the students who chose to design, conduct and present independent scientific research.
