Buck Bell Receives National Student Leadership Award

posted May 21, 2018, 9:18 AM by NaCole Stevens

BPHS Student, Buck Bell has been awarded the National World War II Billy Michael Student Leadership Award. The award was inspired by a young boy who was too young to enlist in the war effort during World War II. He contributed instead, by holding a scrap metal drive in his neighborhood to donate to the effort. The National World War II Museum in New Orleans wanted to have a civic student leadership award in honor of American ideals such as leadership and community service. The Museum chooses one student from each state and one from D.C. annually. Buck's teacher, Aaron Makelky nominated Buck because he exemplifies civic mindedness and American ideals better than anyone he’s ever seen. Buck Bell will be flown to New Orleans by the Museum in June. He will receive a tour of the museum, including behind-the-scenes exploration of the exhibits and collections, meet the other award recipients, and have dinner with the American Spirit Award recipient, actor Gary Sinise, who played Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump. He will also receive a tour of the French quarter in New Orleans, be featured on their website and have lunch with everyone involved. Congratulations Buck!!!
