Buck Bell Receives National Student Leadership Award

posted May 21, 2018, 9:18 AM by NaCole Stevens

BPHS Student, Buck Bell has been awarded the National World War II Billy Michael Student Leadership Award. The award was inspired by a young boy who was too young to enlist in the war effort during World War II. He contributed instead, by holding a scrap metal drive in his neighborhood to donate to the effort. The National World War II Museum in New Orleans wanted to have a civic student leadership award in honor of American ideals such as leadership and community service. The Museum chooses one student from each state and one from D.C. annually. Buck's teacher, Aaron Makelky nominated Buck because he exemplifies civic mindedness and American ideals better than anyone he’s ever seen. Buck Bell will be flown to New Orleans by the Museum in June. He will receive a tour of the museum, including behind-the-scenes exploration of the exhibits and collections, meet the other award recipients, and have dinner with the American Spirit Award recipient, actor Gary Sinise, who played Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump. He will also receive a tour of the French quarter in New Orleans, be featured on their website and have lunch with everyone involved. Congratulations Buck!!!

State Track Parking, May 17-19

posted May 10, 2018, 11:52 AM by NaCole Stevens   [ updated May 10, 2018, 11:53 AM ]

**PARKING AND ENTRANCE AT STATE TRACK**

Due to school being in session and ongoing construction at Kelly Walsh High School, parking will be very limited in the area. Parking has been arranged at the South end of the Mall by Sears. A shuttle system will continually drop fans off close to the main entrance of the stadium.

Please allow extra time in using the shuttle so you do not miss the event you have traveled to see.

Also, there will only be one entrance into the facility. This will be the main stadium entrance. We will utilize both ticket booths at the base of the press box.

State Track & Soccer Streamed

posted May 10, 2018, 11:09 AM by NaCole Stevens   [ updated May 10, 2018, 11:56 AM ]

SCSD9 Community,

We wanted you to be aware that we will be video streaming State Track on the NFHS Network next week. We have attempted to stream State Soccer in the past, but have very limited viewership so we will not be streaming State Soccer. Since Jackson Hole is a member of the School Broadcast Program and have a Pixellot camera, they have agreed to stream each of the Championship Games on Saturday. Please make sure your students and parents are aware we will be covering State Track so their out of state relatives will have the opportunity to view.

If you are a member of the School Broadcast Program, the subscriptions your parents and fans have purchased will allow them to view all the events. If not, they will need to purchase a one month subscription. However, it will be the subscribers responsibility to cancel their subscription at the end of the month or it will automatically renew each month. The monthly fee is $9.95.

Scott will have the Network logo on our main page of the website. Simply click on the logo and it will take you to our state page. Also, once you have a subscription, you will have access to all the other states that are members of the NFHS Network. If you have a niece or nephew participating in another state, you would be able to view their event under the same subscription price.

If you have any questions, please let us know and we will assist you.

Puncher Robotics: So Far This Year

Puncher Robotics: So Far This Year
By: Destiny Reed

What is FIRST Robotics? FIRST stands for “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology,” and is a program that focuses on getting students involved in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) programs.

Puncher Robotics, Team 3288, has been participating in the FIRST Robotics Competition for eight years now, and each year brings more excitement. Each year, FIRST designs a new game. This year, the game was FIRST Power Up! This game gave robots the task of picking up yellow game cubes and presented them with the challenge of placing cubes in three possible positions to gain more points for the alliance, meaning that a strategy was definitely necessary for each match.

This season, Puncher Robotics got the opportunity to play at the Colorado Regional in Denver. Upon arrival, they had a robot that didn’t work, but within the span of a day, the team got the robot to work. With each match, the robot and drivers got better and better, and they ended up ranked 26th out of 52. Unfortunately, they weren’t picked on an alliance for the finals, but remained hopeful for the next competition.

The next week, Puncher Robotics participated in the Idaho Regional in Boise. The matches went great and the team had a great showing. At the end of the regional they were ranked 27th out of 39. The team was fortunately picked by the third ranked team and got to compete on their alliance. Together, they beat the sixth ranked, and second ranked alliances. Then, they got to compete for the championship, but sadly lost. All is well though, because they ended up qualifying for the World Championships!

This year, the World Championships will be held in Houston, Texas, from April 18-21. Team 3288 is very excited to go and compete with some of the best teams in the world. This is often a once in a lifetime opportunity, and they’re grateful for it. To get the chance to go, Puncher Robotics has opened a gofundme site to help raise funding for the trip.

Puncher Robotics would like to thank all of their sponsors. Without their gracious sponsors, none of this would be possible. If you have any questions about the program, contact mentor Steve Nelson at snelson@sublette9.org.

Pool Hours

posted Apr 6, 2018, 3:53 PM by NaCole Stevens

We are making this post in an effort to share accurate information about the changes that have been made to the pool hours. The Pool will be changing to new hours for the remainder of the school year. Due to not having a school swim team in the water at this time, the evening open swim will be changed to 3:30-5:30 p.m. Monday - Thursday (beginning Mon. 4/9). This adds 5 hours of public swim time per week. Summer hours will be determined at a later date. We plan to return to fall hours 2 weeks before the first high school swim practice in August. Thank you!
