Sublette Couny School District #9 is committed to promoting the fullest development of our students in mind, body and heart. While deeply rooted in past traditions, our goal today is to produce well-rounded, socially responsible, independent thinkers through academically challenging and balanced curricular programs in academics, athletics, and the arts.
The objective of education in the Big Piney Schools are, broadly, twofold. They include the self-realization of the individual and the development of the individual in relation to society. In a democracy, these objectives are complementary rather than contradictory, so in the broadest sense we have the single aim of developing to the fullest the capacities of each individual within the framework of a developing society.
Thus education is concerned with self-realization, human relationship, civic responsibility and economic efficiency, and should include training in and development of the following to the maximum ability of each individual:
1. The basic skills or tools of learning
2. The ability to think and reason on both concrete and abstract levels
3. Health, knowledge and habits
4. Individual initiative
5. Self confidence
6. Self-realization through intellectual, esthetic, recreational development and creative ability
7. Personal integrity and self-respect
8. Communication skills
9. Understanding, consideration, and control in human relationships
10. Basic knowledge and skills necessary for economic efficiency and independence
11. Citizenship - the sense of social responsibility and the knowledge to discharge these duties successfully both locally and in the larger sense.
In order to carry out such a program, the teaching staff, administrative leadership, instructional material and physical plant should be the best available within the economic ability of the community.
We feel, then that the aim of education is to equip each individual to gain from life the highest degree of satisfaction and to make to it the greatest contribution of which he/she is capable.
